The role of after-school programming is changing, its footprint is growing. Though it started out as a way to keep students out of trouble during after school hours, out of school time programming has grown to incorporate enrichment, academics, nutrition, and physical education. Quality after-school programs contribute significantly to the success of individual students and are quickly becoming an essential part of a thriving school community.

This video, featuring Kathy Lally of the DC public schools, talks about afterschool programming run by the school district.  Many school districts are becoming more interested in including afterschool programming in services provided by the public school system.
