Afterschool bridges the gaps that students face when in school, according to a public school teacher who is also a site coordinator for the Teen Truth program.
The role of after-school programming is changing, its footprint is growing. Though it started out as a way to keep students out of trouble during after school hours, out of school time programming has grown to incorporate enrichment, academics, nutrition, and physical education. Quality after-school programs contribute significantly to the success of individual students and are quickly becoming an essential part of a thriving school community.
Amen! I loved this clip and the emphasis the speaker put on reaching youth from a different angle...candid talk. During the school day, unfortunately, there is little time for unstructured open discussion/dialogue time. Yet, it is so important for students to have this time and YES, that is one of the many benefits to after-school programs. I'd like to see all schools incorporate an after-school program so that kids have another haven for learning, especially socially and emotionally.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a village to raise a child is more true today than ever before in history. Modern society moves that such an accelerated rate. Although families and schools are doing the best that they can there is much information that is not being addressed. After school programs provide so many advantages and needed services to a community.
